The Giotto Arts Centre, built in 2001, forms part of The Sir Bernard Lovell School. It is home to the Creative & Media department, as well as our in house theatre group, Nexus International Performance Lab, and its youth wing, NIPA (Nexus International Performing Arts). For students interested in backstage/technical skills, NIPA Technical provides training and plenty of opportunities to put the skills into practise.
Facilities include an art gallery/exhibition space, which doubles as the foyer to our state of the art performance studio. There is also a smaller studio/rehearsal room, 3 art rooms, 2 music rooms and a media room.
Previous productions include those by the school's in house theatre company, NIPA, which vary in scale from small exam pieces to large concerts and musicals such as Les Miserables. The Giotto Arts Centre has also been used for workshops, church services, community theatre and touring productions, such as those by the renowned Travelling Light. |

About Nexus International Performance Lab |

|
|
Through performance art, Nexus seeks to act as a catalyst for the collective creative energy of the community. Providing a forum for collaborative performance that challenges social myths and validates cultural identity from the primacy of one’s roots to the exploration of the concept of global citizenship. Nexus has a commitment to International Performance research.
Much of the work has an international perspective. New works from other countries are included providing intercultural and multi cultural performance work. As well as having language college status, SBL is home to an international learning and research centre with partner schools in Italy, France and Romania and others ready to work on active performance research from Europe, Asia and Australia.
Nexus is inclusive, combining diverse talents, interests and backgrounds.
Nexus seeks to advance performance as a viable leisure activity as accessible to the community as renting a video or going to the cinema. Performance in the 21 st century includes ICT, multi media and inter-active collective enterprise that challenges and excites. By actively involving the local community, exploring what participants offer and building from this, Nexus helps to dispel and challenge elitist notions about the Performing Arts. We offer the performative experience to all.
