“The Journey into Employment “

S Glos Conference for School Governors and Elected Members, Saturday 6th October

Every year S Glos runs a conference open to all school governors (primary and secondary) and elected members. The focus this year was on the growing variety of qualifications and opportunities now open to students, particularly at 14-19, and the new diplomas being introduced in September 2008.

The school were one of three centres invited to make a presentation at this prestigious conference, focusing on our highly successful practice in BTEC Performing Arts. Kirstie Ball and Dan Wheeler (Yr 12) both studied BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts in Yr 10 & 11 and have now embarked upon the BTEC National Award in Performing Arts. They made a short presentation to the 80 delegates about their experiences following these courses and how it had benefited them in other areas of their life both in and out of school. They then assisted in the facilitating of workshops for the delegates, each one focusing on a different aspect of the journey into employment.

Numerous delegates commented on the confidence, maturity and professionalism of both students, they were a credit to the school.
